Sovcomflot: Safe, Quality Maritime Innovation


Sovcomflot is the largest shipping company in the Russian Federation, comprised of a 146-vessel fleet and providing services for oil and gas production and exploration facilities offshore. Hydrocarbon transportation is a speciality of Sovcomflot, particularly across regions presenting unique challenges due to icy conditions. A full third of the fleet have a high ice class, servicing energy projects on a large scale both in Russia and internationally.

Victor Olerskiy has served on the Board of Directors at PAO Sovcomflot since 2017, coming from a long background in the maritime shipping sector. Sovcomflot takes pride in developing and implementing innovative new technologies and sciences, with a keen eye for safety and quality.


Fleet Renewal Programme

Sovcomflot has been implementing a fleet renewal programme over the past few years, working on technical solutions and optimising engineering on existing vessels as well as adding new vessels to the fleet to bring in unique capabilities. The company has regularly received awards for innovation both nationally and internationally, developing a solid reputation for consistent innovative achievements.

The Novy Port and Yamal LNG projects, both large-scale industrial projects, have begun to implement year-round, uninterrupted transport via the Northern Sea Route. In addition, the increased fleet size and operational capability ensures Sovcomflot retains its competitive advantage in the ever-challenging environment of the seas in the Arctic and subarctic regions.

Personnel Development

Professional development for personnel is also a key initiative at Sovcomflot, with a variety of quality training and educational programmes available for employees. These are aimed at providing comprehensive studies of fleet management and the relevant modern technologies. The engineering specialists at Sovcomflot have scientific skills that are highly advanced, with no less than 12 individuals to date boasting the title of Candidate of Technical Sciences after completing post-graduate qualifications. Sovcomflot targets a minimum of 0.4% of the entire annual company revenue for personnel development, including training programmes, research and development funding, scientific work and skill upgrades.
